Influences include the Benny Goodman Sextet, Artie Shaw’s Grammercy Five, Count Basie’s Kansas City Six, and the Harlem-based small groups of Illinois Jacquet, Cootie Williams, Coleman Hawkins, and Hot Lips Page.
